The Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship provides the opportunity for early career scientists, engineers and scholars from Singapore and around the world to conduct independent investigations in any discipline at NTU, often regarded as the most research intensive university in Asia.
The postdoc appointment is intended to provide a pathway to an academic appointment as an assistant professor or another international postdoctoral assignment​​.

Scholarship Description

Eligibility

  • Graduated with a PhD degree and no more than 5 years of full time postdoctoral experience.

    Demonstrable intellectual excellence.

    Maturity and capacity to begin an independent research career.

    Desire and potential to develop as a future academic leader.
    Applicant is required to submit thoughtful and realistic research proposal.
    Be available to take up the position no later than 31 October 2020

Scholarship Application Procedure

Applications for the NTU Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship 2020 will be open from 1 February 2020 and shall close on 31 March 2020 (Singapore Time).

Description of work

Qualifications

PhD student in Machine Elements at Luleå University of Technology Sweden

PhD student in Machine Elements with focus on developing green lubricants involving chemical synthesis, ref no 5722-2019.

The research subject Machine Elements belongs to the Department of Engineering Sciences and Mathematics (TVM) at Luleå University of Technology. The research within the field of Machine Elements is mainly focused on tribology and its applications. The research group consists of more than 30 researchers and doctoral students and is one of the leading tribology research groups in Europe. Activities include many aspects of tribology, e.g. materials tribology, lubrication and lubricants, condition monitoring, biotribology, computational tribology and machine component tribology. The research is both of fundamental and applied in nature and is often carried out in close cooperation with Swedish and international industry.

The group is responsible for theoretical and project courses taught in the university’s Master of Science, Bachelor of Science and Master’s programs. Most of the teaching is within the Mechanical Engineering program and the Erasmus Mundus Masters program in tribology (TRIBOS).

We are currently seeking a PhD-student to our research team within the field of Machine Elements.

SUBJECT DESCRIPTION

Machine Elements comprises the analysis and optimization of machine components and component systems to enhance performance, longevity, energy-efficiency and reliability and to reduce environmental impact. Particular emphasis is placed on issues in the field of tribology.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The research project is focused on developing, testing and characterizing green lubricants. Special focus will be put on investigating the possibility of developing green and smart lubricants from renewable materials, e.g. bio-mass. The project includes the advancement in knowledge and understanding of the physical, chemical and lubricating properties of green lubricants from nano-scale to macro-scale. A series of chemical synthesis and characterization will be involved during the project.

The PhD studies are 4 year, full time. Administration and/or teaching up to maximum 20% may be added. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have a master’s degree in science or engineering, Materials science, chemistry, mechanical engineering, etc, or equivalent.  Good skills in oral and written communication in English is also a requirement.
